Patient Match automates identity verification for incoming external imaging. Most imaging networks depend on staff to catch identity errors before a study is filed, a process that breaks down fast under volume. Many legacy systems match on only three data points: name, date of birth, and sex, which is not enough to separate patients in a large population where common names and shared birthdays often repeat. Without a stricter standard, misfiled studies and duplicate scans slip through, along with the delays and repeat testing costs that follow.
Patient Match raises the bar by requiring a fourth unique identifier before any automated link is approved. When a match is not clean, the study is halted and held for staff review rather than filed automatically, and administrators stay in control of how matches are stored, reviewed, or reversed.
